Men's Soccer Blanks Post in Merrimack Invitational
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack men's soccer
Warriors (2-0-1, 0-0-0 NE-10) opened their home schedule at Warrior
Field Friday with a 2-0 win over Post University.
For the Warriors, senior captain Greg Motta
(Saunderstown, RI) [right] tallied the game's first goal and
eventual game-winner in the 26th minute. Motta's first goal
on the year was followed by sophomore Robbie
Sabadoz's (Ottawa, ON) goal in the 79th minutes in
his first game this season.
In net, senior captain Doug Carvalho (New
Bedford, MA) recorded the shutout victory with seven saves,
including five in the first half.
Earlier in the night, Dominican College (2-0-1) knocked off
American International College (0-3) with second half goals from
James Flaherty and the game-winning header from senior Joe Wright
to win 2-1. American International's scoring came from
sophomore Tim Britt in the 84th minute before the Yellow Jackets
gave up two unanswered goals.
The Warriors conclude the Merrimack Invitational on Sunday versus
Dominican University at 4:00pm after Post and American
International kick-off at 1:00pm. Merrimack will open their
Northeast-10 schedule at home against Southern Connecticut on
September 12 at 7:00pm.
