Volleyball Defeats Caldwell; Falls to Bridgeport Saturday
BRIDGEPORT, CT - The Merrimack volleyball team won its fourth
straight match defeating Caldwell 3-0, before falling to regional
power Bridgeport Saturday night.
The Warriors defeated Caldwell 25-12, 25-17, 25-15.
Molly Cindric (Westlake Village, CA) registered
11 kills, giving her double-digits in kills for the third straight
match. Alyssa Pickert (Tinley Park, IL) and
Natalee Yeazle (Blaine, MN) led the way
defensively with 12 and 10 digs respectively. Cindric was two digs
shy of a double-double.
Merrimack played its cleanest match of the season, committing
just 11 attack errors while hitting .258 overall. Megan
Murray (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) was solid on the
serve, registering four of her team's nine aces. The Warriors also
tallied six blocks, while causing 19 Caldwell attack errors.
"It was good to have the team focused and take care of business
effectively," said head coach Joey Pacis. "We were able to get
everyone in. If we continue to take it one point at a time, we
should be all right."
In the second match, Bridgeport, a perennial NCAA participant,
defeated the Warriors 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-12).
Freshman Shaunda Forcier (Gonic, NH) led the
way for the Warriors with 10 kills and a .194 attack percentage.
Elyse Lorenz (Frankfurt, IL) added 20 assists and
11 digs for her second double-double of the season, while Cindric
added nine digs and eight kills, but also had eight attack errors.
Pickert had 15 digs, giving her 27 on the day.
Bridgeport was very effective offensively, hitting .226 in the
match and made just eight attack errors compared to 33 kills and 12
blocks.
All in all, it was a very successful weekend for the Warriors
who won three of four matches at the Bridgeport Tournament.
The Warriors (4-1) take on Concordia and Franklin Pierce next
Saturday at Franklin Pierce beginning at 1 p.m.
