Women's Basketball Falls Short at Pace, 69-47
PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The Merrimack women's basketball
team dropped a road Conference contest to Pace University Saturday
afternoon, 69-47.
With the loss, Merrimack falls to 7-11 (5-8 NE-10) on the year,
while Pace improved to 13-5 (10-3 NE-10).
Sophomore Genn Roy (Granby, MA) and
junior Sarah Benischek (Shrub Oak, NY) each
scored 12 points, while four Setters scored in double digits.
Facing a Pace team that shot 53% (16-of-30) in the first half, the
Warriors last led in the first half, 11-10, at the 12:53 mark on
two of freshman Kelly Schatzlein's (Tolland,
CT) eight first half points. From that point on, Pace went
on a 19-3 run over the next six minutes.
Merrimack shot just 28% from the field in the first half,
including 2-of-12 from beyond the arc, both of which came from the
palms of Benischek.
Merrimack scored first in the second half to draw within 14
points, but Pace would use 49% shooting and 10 three-pointers in
the game to secure the win.
The Warriors were out-rebounded 42-37 on the afternoon in the
team's second lowest scoring output of the season.
Merrimack returns to action on Tuesday, January 26 against
Southern Connecticut State University at the Volpe Gym at 5:30pm.
