NORTH ANDOVER, MA - Rebounding from their first loss in two months this past Saturday, the Merrimack men's basketball team ran away from Southern Connecticut State University Tuesday evening at the Volpe Gym, 81-51.

With the win, Merrimack improved to 13-4 (11-3 NE-10) on the season while Southern Connecticut dropped to 2-17 (1-13 NE-10) in 2009-10.

For senior Darren Duncan (Briarwood, NY), it would prove to be a momentous evening for the captain following a game-high 25 points and 7-of-8 from the line.

Besides becoming the fifth player in Merrimack history to score 1,800 points, Duncan also tied the all-time mark in the Northeast-10 Conference for free throws made in a career at 642.  Assumption College's Drew Adderly '03 is the one Duncan matched in Merrimack's most lopsided affair of the season.

Sophomore Aaron Strothers (Wareham, MA) chipped in a solid performance with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks while improving upon his already first-ranked field goal percentage in the Northeast-10 (70%) with 8-of-10 from the field.

Freshman Tyler Young (Brooklyn, NY) played 23 minutes for the Warriors, helping them win the battle on the boards with nine of his own to go with four points and two steals.

After falling behind 6-2 in the early going, Merrimack ended the first half on a 40-18 run punctuated by a put-back dunk from Strothers late in the half.

The Warriors also enjoyed their largest rebounding margin in a half this season (23-16) to score 10 second chance points and 24 in the paint to match the Owls total in the first half.  In the game, Merrimack won the battle on the boards, 40-30, to improve to 2-0 when winning that war.

To start the second half, Southern Connecticut scored the first four points but from there Merrimack went on a 23-6 run to push the lead to 31 and eventually 34 before the visitors had a chance at making a run.

The Warriors also improved to 10-0 when scoring at least 80 points, as freshman Adam Marshall (Kent, England) drained two of his season-high six points from the baseline on a dish from Roland Davis (Deer Park, NY).  Davis finished the game with 19 points after hitting 3-of-5 three-pointers and 7-of-12 from the field.

The Warriors return to action on the road against the University of New Haven (2-16, 2-12 NE-10) on Saturday in New Haven, Connecticut for a 4:00pm start.
