Volleyball Drops Pair at Rollins Tournament Sunday
WINTER PARK, FL – The Merrimack volleyball team concluded
its three-match Florida trip with a pair of losses at the Rollins
Tournament Sunday.
The Warriors lost to Rollins 3-0 with game scores of 25-15,
25-21, 25-19 and to Armstrong Atlantic 3-1 with scores of 25-23,
10-25, 25-21, 27-25.
Against Rollins, Merrimack did not gain a lead until the third
set as the hosts recorded an 80% sideout percentage in the first
set and took advantage of Merrimack's 37% sideout output in the
second.
Molly Cindric
(Westlake Village, CA) led the way with 11 digs and nine
kills, while Natalee Yeazle
(Blaine, MN) added seven kills and six digs. Elyse
Lorenz (Frankfurt, IL) tallied 26 assists, four digs, an
ace and a solo block as Merrimack hit .128 overall.
"Although we took a set, we are happy with the effort and
execution," said head coach Joey Pacis. "We took advantage of the
opportunity to play against a national-level team who beat the #1
team in the country a couple weeks ago, and we played them tough
until the end."
The Warriors battled Armstrong Atlantic to a highly-contested
match behind a season-high 21 kills and a double-double (18 digs)
from Cindric.
In a match in which each team committed 26 attack errors,
Merrimack hung tough in the fourth set, aiming to force a fifth as
the teams were deadlocked at 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25 before
Armstrong Atlantic (10-10) got a kill from Leia Pittman and an ace
from Torrie Bevolo to close out the match.
Jenna Reilly
(Northport, NY) added nine kills, four blocks and an ace,
while Yeazle tallied 16 digs, six kills and three blocks. Lorenz
was one shy of a double-double, after getting 39 assists and two
blocks.
Merrimack (4-11, 3-4 NE-10) returns to conference action at
Southern Connecticut Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting New Haven
Saturday at 4 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend.
