Volleyball Opens Crucial Weekend with 3-1 Win over SCSU
NEW HAVEN, CT – Behind a double-double and a season-high
23 kills from Molly Cindric
(Westlake Village, CA), the Merrimack volleyball team
opened a critical conference weekend with a 3-1 win over Southern
Connecticut to even its conference record at 4-4.
Merrimack (5-11, 4-4 NE-10) hosts perennial power New Haven
Saturday at 4 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend.
Game scores were 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, as the Warriors
passed the Owls in the standings, moving into a tie for eighth
place.
"It was great to watch the team play tonight," said head coach
Joey Pacis. "The girls made our jobs much easier by playing hard
for every point throughout the match. They played with each other
and we got a chance to play our game tonight."
Cindric picked up 23 kills to just five attack errors and added
15 digs and two blocks. Shaunda Forcier
(Gonic, NH) tallied a season-high 15 kills, which tied a
career-high, while Natalee Yeazle
(Blaine, MN) added nine digs and seven kills. Elyse Lorenz
(Frankfurt, IL) anchored the offense with 47 assists and
nine digs, while Alyssa Pickert
(Tinley Park, IL) backstopped the defense with 24
digs.
Merrimack was strong in all facets of the match, hitting .255
overall and no worse than .158 in any set, while winning 62% of its
sideout points.
They forced 20 Owl attack errors, while overcoming 31 tie scores
and 13 lead changes, including six in the third.
Four Southern Connecticut players registered double-digits in
kills, including Megan Lyons and Megan Hiss who both notched
double-doubles.
