Volleyball Falls to New Haven in Heartbreaker 3-2
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack volleyball team lost to
the Northeast-10 Defending Champion New Haven 3-2 Saturday
afternoon at the Volpe Gym.
Game scores were 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 21-25, 15-13.
After dropping the first two sets, the Warriors stormed back,
winning 69% and 65% of their sideout points in the third and fourth
sets to force a decisive fifth set.
Trailing 12-9 in the fifth, Merrimack cut it to 12-11 behind
kills from Jenna Reilly
(Northport, NY) and Elyse Lorenz
(Frankfurt, IL). They tied it at 13 behind an ace from
Lorenz, but the Chargers finished the match off with back-to-back
kills to prevail with the victory.
Molly Cindric
(Westlake Village, CA) picked up a double-double for the
seventh time and the second straight match with 16 kills and 15
digs, while Reilly added 13 kills and two blocks.
Shaunda Forcier
(Gonic, NH) and Nicole Duarte (Windham,
NH) each were in double-digits in kills with 11 and 12
respectively while Lorenz had 49 assists and four aces.
Merrimack hit .152 overall, including .304 in the fifth set,
compared to .198 for New Haven.
Merrimack (5-12, 4-5 NE-10) visits Bentley Wednesday at 7:30
p.m. for a big showdown with the Falcons.
