No. 16 Women's Soccer Draws Even with Southern N.H.
MANCHESTER, N.H.- The No. 16 Merrimack
women's soccer team closed out a two-game road swing with a
scoreless tie at Southern New Hampshire. The Warriors move to 6-2-2
overall and 6-1-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference while the Penmen
are now 4-4-1 on the year and 3-3-1 in the league.
Merrimack managed to fire 13 shots in the game but only two were
on frame. Southern New Hampshire registered 24 shots in the match
with eight being on target. Sami Brady (Rockland,
Mass.) and Danielle Dion (Grosvenordale,
Conn.) paced the Warriors with three shots each. Dion and
Kara Hennigan (Pawtucket, R.I.) had
Merrimack's only two shots on goal in the game.
Both goalkeepers were up to the task today as neither allowed a
goal. Kiley Horne (Scituate, Mass.) turned in an
eight-save performance for the Warriors. Horne earned her third
shutout of the season. The junior goalkeeper has recorded a clean
sheet in three of the past four games. Maggie Weldon made a pair of
saves for Southern New Hampshire.
The Penmen held the advantage in corner kicks earned, 10-7, in
the contest. The Warriors were able to fend off three Southern New
Hampshire corner kicks in the second overtime period.
Merrimack will look to get back to its winning ways with three
games next week. The Warriors will host Franklin Pierce October 5
in a midweek match under the lights of Warrior Field. Merrimack
will travel to Pace October 8 and cap off the week with an
afternoon home match against Le Moyne October 10.
