Volleyball Loses Late at Bentley, 3-2
WALTHAM, MA – Molly Cindric
(Westlake Village, CA) and Shaunda Forcier
(Gonic, NH) combined for 31 kills, but Bentley University
won the fourth and fifth sets to defeat the Merrimack volleyball
team 3-2 in conference action Wednesday night.
Game scores were 25-19, 24-26, 12-25, 25-20, 15-13.
Bentley broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth with five straight points
to lead 8-3. At 12-6, the Warriors rattled off the next five points
to cut the lead to one at 12-11 before the hosts responded with two
straight to set up match point. Merrimack never quit, getting the
next two points with Elyse Lorenz
(Frankfort, IL) picking up the kill at 14-13, but Bridget
Lawson responded with the match-clinching kill for the Falcons.
The Warriors trailed the entire first set, as Bentley hit .345
en route to the 25-19 first set victory.
Bentley led 15-12 in the second before Merrimack responded with
six straight points with Lorenz serving, to take the 18-15 lead.
But the Falcons tied it at 19 and took a 24-21 lead before Forcier
tallied consecutive kills to cut the deficit to one. After tying it
at 24 on a Bentley attack error, Forcier followed with her
10th kill of the match to regain the lead, setting up a
match point that was converted by Cindric to even the match at
one.
Merrimack dominated the third, taking advantage of eight Bentley
attack errors to go on a 15-3 run, featuring nine consecutive
points to cruise to a 25-12 victory.
But the Falcons sent it to a fifth, closing out the fourth on a
16-9 run behind 13 kills in a 25-20 victory.
Cindric notched her third straight double-double with 18 digs
and 15 kills, while Forcier tallied 16 kills and hit .263.
Jenna
Reilly (Northport, NY) added 10 kills, four solos, and
four block assists with Lorenz picking up 41 assists and eight
digs.
Merrimack (5-13, 4-6 NE-10) hosts Southern New Hampshire Friday
at 7 p.m. for a non-conference match before battling Saint Anselm
Saturday at 1 p.m. for a conference showdown on Senior Day.
