Men's Soccer Thwarted by Bentley, 1-0
WALTHAM, Mass.- The Merrimack men's soccer team
fell to Bentley 1-0 Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Warriors
move to 9-5-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference
while the Falcons improve to 9-2-4 on the year and 6-1-4 in the
league.
The two teams combined to register five shots in the first half
but none found the back of the net. Bentley held the first-half
edge in shots with three compared to Merrimack's two.
It wasn't until the 72nd minute that the first goal of the match
was scored. Cody Osgood netted an unassisted tally for Bentley's
1-0 lead. The one score was all that the Falcons needed as they
held off the Warriors for the 1-0 victory.
The Warriors and Falcons each recorded seven shots in the match
with the home team owning the edge in shots on goal, 3-2. Merrimack
held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks awarded in the game, six of
which came in the second 45 minutes of play.
Alejandro Fuchs
(Caracas, Venezuela) paced the Warriors with two shots,
including firing one on goal.
Mattias Drummond
(Partille, Sweden) made a pair of saves in the contest for
the Warriors. Mike Nikiforov also turned aside two shots for
Bentley.
Merrimack will remain on the road as it travels to nearby rival
UMass Lowell October 26.
