Volleyball Sweeps St. Anselm; Honors Class of 2011
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- The Merrimack volleyball
team won all three games against St. Anselm to cruise to a 3-0
victory Saturday afternoon at Volpe Gym. The Warriors boost their
overall record to 7-13 and improve to 5-6 in the Northeast-10
Conference with the win. The Hawks sink to 2-14 on the year and
1-10 in the league.
Merrimack held off St. Anselm in the first set 25-21 to grab a
1-0 lead early in the match. The home side took the final two sets
by identical scores of 25-18.
Molly Cindric
(Westlake Village, Calif.) put down 19 kills and served up
three aces for the Warriors. Jenna Reilly
(Northport, N.Y.) recorded seven blocks on the day while
Elyse
Lorenz (Frankfurt, Ill.) dished out 39 assists.
Brianna
Trabucco (Canton, Mass.), Alyssa Pickert
(Tinley Park, Ill.) and Cindric all had nine digs for
Merrimack.
"We played well again to get an important conference win,"
said head coach Joey Pacis. "In addition, it was great to honor the
five Seniors on our team for their dedication to our program for
the last 4 years."
Before the match, Merrimack honored its five-member senior
class, who will graduate as the most accomplished and successful
class in program history. They reached the NCAA Tournament for the
first time in program history in 2007 and 2008 before setting a
school record for wins in 2009. Alyssa Pickert (Tinley
Park, IL) will graduate as the program's all-time leader
in digs for a season and a career. Heidi Wroblicky
(Irvine, CA) became the first player in school history to
play in 400 sets and picked up her 1000th career dig on
October 10. The first All-American in school history, Molly
Cindric (Westlake Village, CA) is the program's all-time
leader in kills for a season and career, breaking the previous
career mark last Saturday. After transferring to Merrimack for her
sophomore year, Megan Murray
(Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) ranks seventh in school
history for career blocks. A two-time captain, Elyse Lorenz
(Frankfurt, IL) will graduate as the school's all-time
leader for assists in a season and a career.
Merrimack returns to action October 27 as it travels to
Manchester, N.H., to take on Southern N.H. The Warriors and Penmen
squared off October 22 in a non-conference match at Volpe Gym with
Merrimack claiming a 3-1 victory.
