Field Hockey Falls at Adelphi, 4-1
GARDEN CITY, N.Y.- The Merrimack field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to Adelphi on the road. The Warriors are now 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the Northeast-10 after the loss. The Panthers improved to 10-6 on the year with a 5-2 mark in the league with the win.
Jen Otis (Penacook, N.H.) tallied her sixth goal of the year to put Merrimack ahead 1-0 after just 2:31 of game time. Otis back-handed a shot into the frame to open the scoring.
Adelphi notched four unanswered scores to pick up the victory. Julianne Gerbino knocked in a rebound with three minutes remaining in the first half to tie the game at 1-1.
After the break, the Panthers took the lead on a goal by Theresa Murphy 1:32 into the second period. Two minutes later, Natasha Pedzik eventually found the back of the net after a scramble in front of the Merrimack goal. Crystal Gray capped off the scoring by converting a penalty stroke in the 65th minute.
Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, Mass.) made 15 stops for the Warriors in the contest. Lucia Vigliotti turned aside three shots for the home team.
Adelphi owned the advantage in shots, 24-6, and in penalty corners, 17-4.
"The score didn't reflect the game. I thought we played well today," said head coach Anne Rounce. "We look forward to playing three of the last four games at home."
The Warriors return to North Andover after playing just one home game in the month of October. Merrimack will host Stonehill November 2 at Warrior Field in a 4 p.m. game.
