No. 25 Men's Soccer Sunk by Saint Anselm OT Score
MANCHESTER, N.H.- The Merrimack men's
soccer team suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to Saint Anselm Thursday
afternoon. The Warriors fall to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in the
Northeast-10. Saint Anselm improves to 3-6-1 on the year and 3-3-1
against conference opponents.
Senior Ben Paradis (Tiverton, R.I.) opened the
scoring 19 minutes into the contest, tallying his first goal of the
2010 season. Merrimack held the 1-0 lead for less than 10 minutes
as Saint Anselm notched an equalizer at the 28 minute mark.
The two teams headed into halftime deadlocked at a goal apiece.
The Hawks would jump ahead 2-1 in the opening minutes of the second
half.
The Warriors tied the score on Adam Leone's (East
Northport, N.Y.) second goal of the season. Leone buried a
loose ball in front of the cage to knot the game at 2-2 with 20
minutes remaining.
Less than three minutes later, Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa,
Ontario) netted his team-leading eighth goal of the year
to make the score 3-2 in favor of Merrimack.
The Hawks battled back and tallied their third goal of the match
with nine seconds on the clock. Keesan Howe's second goal of
the season sent the match into overtime.
Saint Anselm fired six shots in the extra frame. Joshua Rocco
knocked in a rebound to give the Hawks a 4-3 win.
The Warriors attempted 22 shots in the match while Saint Anselm
managed 15. Eleven of Merrimack's 22 shots were on target
while the Hawks fired seven shots on goal.
Kevin Joyce (Mansfield, Mass.) made four saves
between the posts for Merrimack. Eric Moriarty turned aside nine
shots in the contest for Saint Anselm.
Merrimack returns to Warrior Field to host New Haven in a
Northeast-10 match, October 9.
