Cannata Named Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Month
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Junior Joe Cannata (Wakefield,
MA) concluded a stellar October, earning Hockey East Pure
Hockey Defensive Player of the Month honors on Tuesday.
Cannata started all five games, posting a 2-1-2 record with a
2.44 goals-against-average and a .931 save percentage. He stopped
70 of 75 shots in a home-and-home weekend with #2 Boston College,
leading Merrimack to a 4-2 victory over the Eagles in front of a
sellout crowd Saturday night at Lawler Arena.
He recorded 30 or more saves in four of five games, and 38 or
more in three of five games. The junior also notched his second
career assist in a 4-4 tie at Niagara.
Cannata and the Warriors, ranked 18th in the Inside
College Hockey Poll and 21st in the USCHO National Poll,
return to the ice on Friday at Providence College.
