Women's Hoops Closes Out 2010 with Loss at No. 17 Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa.- The Merrimack women's basketball team capped off the 2010 slate with a 75-59 loss at No. 17 Millersville. The Warriors fell to 4-5 on the year with the loss while the Marauders improved to 7-1 overall.

Kelly Schatzlein (Tolland, Conn.) paced Merrimack with 14 points and seven rebounds on the day. Genn Roy (Granby, Mass.) scored 13 points while Katie Ganser (Needham, Mass.) finished with 12 for the Warriors to go along with three blocks.

Millersville jumped out to a 10-3 lead after four minutes of action. Throughout the first half, the Marauders distanced themselves from Merrimack as they owned a double-figure lead at the break. The Warriors trailed 45-23 at intermission.

Merrimack drained six-straight points to cut the deficit to 13 with 5:30 remaining in the contest. The Warriors were unable to get any closer as Millersville extended its advantage to 20 points with three minutes to go.

The Blue and Gold shot 36% from the field and 29% from behind the arc. The Marauders connected on 42% of their field goal attempts while shooting 38% from downtown.

Millersville owned the edge on the glass with 58 rebounds while Merrimack managed 35.

Aurielle Moseley scored a game-high 26 points for Millersville while pulling down 11 boards.

"A tough loss today to a good team but there were positives to take away," said head coach Helen Williams. "We look forward to returning to North Andover and getting back into Northeast-10 play."

Merrimack looks to open 2011 on a positive note as Saint Anselm rolls into town January 2.
