#4/6 Men's Lacrosse Rolls to 14-4 Victory over Rollins
WINTER PARK, FL – The Merrimack men's lacrosse team
made it two straight victories in its Florida trip, cruising to a
14-4 victory over Rollins College Wednesday afternoon.
Eight of the Warriors' goals came from newcomers,
including five more from Corey Lunney (Little Silver,
NJ), who has 10 goals and 13 points in his first two
collegiate games. Lunney's classmates, Nick Vazquez
(Haverhill, MA) and Greg Melaugh (Billerica,
MA) each added their first career goals, with Vazquez
getting two in the victory.
David Robinson (Lexington, MA) chipped in with
a career-high three goals, while senior captain Mark Webber
(Mansfield, MA) dished out three assists. Bryan
MacPhie (Scarborough, ME) totaled two goals and two
assists, while Nick Maggio (Winchester, MA) won
10-of-17 faceoffs.
"Today was a great bounce-back game," said head coach Mike
Morgan. "We were disappointed with Sunday's performance even though
we won, so we wanted to get off to a quick start today, and we did
just that. We had a bunch of different guys score at attack and
midfield. In general, it was a nice team victory and now we can get
ready for St. Leo's on Saturday."
Lunney netted two goals in a 54-second span midway through the
first to give Merrimack the 2-0 lead. They took a 9-1 lead at
halftime, outscoring Rollins 5-0 in the second, as Greg
Fallon (North Kingston, RI), Melaugh and Lunney scored
2:35 apart early in the second. Three straight goals in the third
made it 12-1 in favor of the visitors.
Melaugh finished with a team-high seven ground balls, while
Phil Ketrelakes (Peabody, MA) totaled five.
Cory Spinale (Wakefield, MA) stopped four shots in
the win, recording his 26th career victory at Merrimack.
Merrimack outshot the hosts by a 43-19 margin.
Merrimack (2-0) concludes its three-game road trip at St.
Leo's, who dropped out of the most recent top-10 poll, on
Saturday at 12 p.m.
