Women's Tennis Nearly Perfect Against AIC
NORTH ANDOVER, MA- Concluding weekend play against American
International College on Sunday at North Andover High School, the
Merrimack College women's tennis team picked up a nearly
perfect 6-0 win over the Yellow Jackets, allowing just two points
all afternoon.
With the win, Merrimack improves to 2-2 in Conference play (2-7
overall) on the year with nine dual matches to play.
The underclassmen Warriors played a key role in Sunday victory
as Merrimack won going away by the lead of freshmen and sophomores
alike.
“We had a great opportunity to move some of our players up
and they took advantage of the situation,” said head coach
Chris Stevens following the match.
“Courtney [Garvey] and Kyle [Waddington] had particularly
impressive wins at one and two [singles].
Sophomore Courtney Garvey
(Woburn, MA) led the way with her first career No. 1
singles win, 6-1, 6-0 and a No. 2 doubles win with freshman
Mollie Fitzgerald
(Melrose, MA), 8-1.
Sophomore Kyle Waddington
(South Glastonbury, CT) won in straight sets at No. 2 to
pick up her third win of the year.
Seniors Caitlin Dunn
(Middleton, MA) and Cristina Lucin
(Wesley Chapel, FL) teamed together for a No.1 doubles
win, 8-0.
The Warriors return to action at on Saturday, March 27 when they
play in Garden City, New York at top-seeded Adelphi University
(9-0, 7-0 NE-10) at 1:00pm.
