Men's Tennis Wins Fifth Straight Conference Contest at Adelphi, 8-1
GARDEN CITY, NY – Winning a third straight dual match and
fifth straight in Conference play, the Merrimack College
men's tennis team (6-3, 5-0 NE-10) took down Adelphi
University Saturday morning 8-1 in Garden City, New York.
"Our guys played very solid in singles led by Rishi [Rajpal] and
Max [Eppley]," said head coach Chris Stevens.
"They had some convincing wins over a good Adelphi team."
Sophomore Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain) won
his No. 2 singles match, 6-2, 6-2, before winning at No. 3 doubles,
8-6 with teammate Tim McHugh (Edgartown, MA).
With the win, the Warriors pulled ahead of the Northeast-10
pack, one match ahead of Bentley (4-0)—who Merrimack plays in
the final regular season contest of the year (April 17).
Reigning freshman of the week, Petar Golijanin (Novi
Sad, Serbia) won his No. 3 singles match without allowing
a point to capture his fifth straight dual match victory.
Sophomore Sean Pahler (Rumson, NJ) also won in
straight sets (6-0, 6-0) at No. 4 after he and Golijanin fell in
No.1 doubles, 8-3.
Sophomore Rishi Rajpal (New Delhi, India) won
his third straight singles match at No. 1, 6-4, 6-1, to improve to
3-3 on the season. Rajpal also won at No. 2 doubles, 8-1 with
junior Liam Hoare (West Newbury, MA).
The Warriors return to action on Sunday against the Setters of
Pace University (3-3, 3-2 NE-10) at 11:00am in Pleasantville, New
York.
