Men's Tennis Rolls to 6-0 in Conference Play with Win at Pace
PLEASANTVILLE, NY – Both the Merrimack men's and
women's tennis teams rolled to road victories at Pace
University Sunday morning in Pleasantville, New York. The
women won 8-1 to arrive at 3-3 in Conference play and the men 7-2
to improve to 6-0 in the Northeast-10.
“It really was a great win for our women in tough weather
conditions,” said head coach Chris
Stevens. “The men also capped off a very
impressive weekend, led by Max Eppley.”
For the women, senior Cristina Lucin (Wesley Chapel,
FL) improved to 7-0 on the year in dual match play with a
No. 1 singles win in straight sets (6-2, 6-0). Lucin has won
three straight matches and is 4-0 at No. 1 and 3-0 at No. 3 in dual
match play.
Senior captain Caitlin Dunn (Middleton, MA)
also won her fourth straight match without allowing a point on
Sunday (6-0, 6-0). Dunn teamed with Lucin for a convincing
8-1 No. 1 doubles win.
The women's team improved to 3-8 on the year with
Sunday's victory.
On the men's side, sophomore Max Eppley (Malaga,
Spain) overpowered his opponent with a No. 2 singles win,
6-1, 6-0. Eppley also picked up a fifth straight doubles win
(8-0) when playing with junior Tim McHugh (Edgartown,
MA).
Freshman Petar Golijanin (Novi Sab, Serbia)
also won a team-high sixth straight singles match at No. 3 after a
6-1, 6-1 victory on Sunday.
The men's team (7-3) remains atop the Northeast-10
Conference, one match ahead of Bentley University (6-0).
The women return to action on Tuesday at Assumption College
(3:30pm), while the men play on Wednesday at Stonehill College
(3:30pm).
