Men's Lacrosse Defeats Franklin Pierce, 20-5
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack men's lacrosse
team won its third straight conference game, defeating Franklin
Pierce 20-5 Wednesday night at Warrior Field.
The Warriors jumped ahead 7-0 at the end of
one quarter, with goals from six different players and four goals
in a 2:44 span, two from Bryan MacPhie (Scarborough,
ME). They led 12-0 at halftime behind three from MacPhie
and three from Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ). David
Robinson (Lexington, MA) added a goal and two first-half
helpers, as eight Warriors netted first-half points. Merrimack
outshot the Ravens 27-11, getting 23 on goal in the first 30
minutes and forced 10 Raven turnovers, while succeeding on all
eight clears.
“I thought our team came out strong and
ready to play,” said Mike Morgan, who is 16-1 at home in his
three years as Merrimack's head coach. “We were focused
and moved the ball well as we now prepare for Adelphi on
Saturday.”
Merrimack emptied its bench in the second half
as 11 players tallied goals in the victory, including the first two
in the collegiate career of Matthew Dellaquila (Mattituck,
NY). Bryan Pollack (Shelton, CT), Greg Manning (Hingham,
MA) and Jordan Tiger (Ridgefield, CT)
also picked up second-half points.
Lunney, last week's Northeast-10 Player
and Rookie of the Week, has 28 goals through five games, after
netting four in Wednesday's victory. Lunney's
classmate, Greg Melaugh (Billerica, MA) scored
three goals, giving him 10 on the season.
Cory Spinale (Wakefield, MA)
stopped all six shots in the victory in 30 minutes of action.
Freshman Connor Reagan (East Lyme, CT) tallied
three saves in the third quarter, while Dave Roberto
(Burlington, MA) added three saves in the final seven
minutes.
Merrimack (5-1, 2-0 NE-10) hosts Adelphi
Saturday at 1 p.m. in a big conference matchup at Warrior Field.
