Women's Lacrosse Falls to #1 Adelphi, 23-12
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women's lacrosse
team lost to top-ranked and the defending National Champion Adelphi
University 23-12 Wednesday afternoon in the home opener at Warrior
Field.
Erica Devito led the way for the Panthers, with eight goals and
three assists. Claire Petersen chipped in with six tallies, while
Kaitlyn Carter had five points, as the Panthers improved to 7-0 on
the season, 4-0 in the conference.
The Warriors trailed 11-8 at halftime, scoring four times in a
4:41 span late in the half, with three goals from Kelly
Pasquantonio (Plainville, MA) and three assists from
Mia Basile (Longmeadow, MA).
"I am really proud of how the girls held themselves in the game
in ther first half," said head coach Corinne Baker. "We had a
specific game plan, and it showed we can play with anyone in the
country. We're putting this loss behind us and looking ahead to
Saturday."
Jamie-Lee Whiteway (Billerica, MA) totaled 11
first-half saves, keeping the Warriors in it, as Adelphi outshot
the hosts 32-17 in the first half.
Alicia Tinsley (Shrewsbury, MA) also scored
three times, while Mia Basile finished with four assists and five
points. Colleen Strachan (Bedford, MA) had a
team-best six draw controls.
Whiteway finished with 17 saves in the loss, including seven of
eight in free-position attempts.
Merrimack (2-2, 1-2 NE-10) hosts Saint Anselm on Saturday at 10
a.m.
