CASSELBERRY, FL - In their first match of the 2010 portion of the season, the Merrimack women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Bethel University (Tenn.) Monday afternoon at Red Bug Lake Park.

Despite the loss, the Warriors showed positive strides throughout the day with a win from sophomore Kyle Waddington (South Glastonbury, MA) and freshman Siobhan Licudine (Mansfield, MA) at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

"The women played hard today, but just came up a little short," said fifth year head coach Chris Stevens following the match.  "Kyle [Waddington] had a great comeback win."

Combining for the lone double victory, sophomore Courtney Garvey (Woburn, MA) and freshman Mollie Fitzgerald (Melrose, MA) coupled up for an 8-1 win in their first match together this season.

With the loss, Merrimack drops to 1-4 overall in 2009-10, but maintains a 1-1 Conference record with a win over Saint Rose and loss to Le Moyne earlier in the year.

The Warriors return to action on Tuesday morning at 8:30am when they face Grand Valley State at Red Bug Lake Park.
