Baseball Dropped by Saint Anselm, 6-2
MANCHESTER, NH– Snapping a two-game win streak, the
Merrimack College baseball team (12-11) dropped a road contest to
Saint Anselm College (9-20) Wednesday afternoon at Sullivan Park,
6-2.
Despite three errors from the Hawks, Merrimack was unable to
score more than two unearned runs on the afternoon in a game the
visitors were out-hit 12-5.
With the Conference loss, Merrimack falls to 7-9 and even with
Saint Anselm but on the short side of the tie-breaker by virtue of
the Hawks 2-0 advantage in Northeast-10 play this season.
Senior captain Brendan Pyburn
(Peabody, MA) recorded two of the Warriors five hits on
the afternoon and his 11th multi-hit game of the
season. He also laid down a bunt to score teammate Paul
Manganiello (Levittown, NY) and tie the score at 2-2
in the top of the third.
Freshman Brett Julian (Weymouth,
MA) lost the pitching duel in 4.0 innings allowing six
hits and three runs before sophomore Chris Pinette
(Norwood, MA) took over to deliver a mirror-image 4.0
innings with six base knocks and a trio of runs.
The Hawks' John Healy improved to 4-3 on the year, going 8.0
innings and striking out eight batters while not allowing an earned
run.
The Warriors return to action on Thursday against UMass-Lowell
to begin a five-game home stand in North Andover. The first
pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm.
