#9 Women's Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straight, 22-6 over Saint Michael's
COLCHESTER, VT – The Merrimack women's lacrosse team,
ranked ninth in this week's IWLCA National Poll, defeated Saint
Michael's College 22-6 Wednesday afternoon for its fifth straight
victory.
The Warriors scored the game's first four goals in a 4:15 span
and never looked back, leading 13-4 at halftime before scoring nine
of the first 10 goals to start the second half.
“Although the score shows a strong offensive presence, our
defense was the staple of the game,” said head coach Corinne
Baker. “I am very pleased with our play and we are very
excited to play again Saturday.”
Eight different players scored including Mia Basile
(Longmeadow, MA), who netted a game-high five goals and
six points, pushing her season total to 54 points, second in the
conference. Kelly
Pasquantonio (Plainville, MA) added four goals, while
Meredith Prior (Branford, CT) scored three times
and added an assist. Maddie Basile
(Longmeadow, MA) added three of her own, while Erica McMahon
(Shrewsbury, MA) notched her first goal since 2008.
Colleen Strachan
(Bedford, MA) also scored three times, while Mary Pasquantonio (Plainville, MA) had three points and three
draw controls.
The Warriors forced 26 Purple Knight turnovers while outshooting
the hosts 41-16.
Jamie-Lee
Whiteway (Billerica, MA) stopped seven shots for the
victory in net.
During the five-game winning streak, which ties the longest
streak in Baker's three years as head coach, Merrimack has eclipsed
the 20-goal plateau in each game.
Merrimack (7-2, 6-2 NE-10) hosts New Haven Saturday at 1 p.m. in
a matchup of two of the elite conference teams in a rematch of last
year's Northeast-10 Semifinals, won by the Chargers 16-15.
