Laracy Pitches Warriors to Win over River Hawks, 2-1
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – In seven innings, freshman lefty
Mike
Laracy (Weymouth, MA) struck out five batters and
picked up his third win of the season (3-0) to help the Merrimack
College baseball team (13-11) to a 2-1 win over the University of
Massachusetts-Lowell (19-18) Thursday afternoon on Warrior Diamond.
Senior lefties Dylan Ellis (Gloucester,
MA) and Ryan O'Rourke
(Worcester, MA) each pitched an inning of relief without
allowing a hit and striking out two, but it was O'Rourke who picked
up his third save of the year and pushed his total of scoreless
innings to 21.0.
The Warriors offense only mustered three hits on the afternoon,
but capitalized when they had base-runners. Sophomore catch
Ray
Walker (Lowell, MA) was responsible for the two
Merrimack runs with a two-run double in the fourth inning to score
Tim
Curran (South Weymouth, MA) and Mike Dooling (Milford,
CT) who each reached on a walk.
The Warriors surrendered eight hits on the afternoon, but shored
up their defense when needed as the River Hawks left seven aboard,
including five through the first three innings.
With the Conference win, Merrimack climbs within one game of
.500 (8-9) while UMass-Lowell falls to 7-11 in Northeast-10 play.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday, April 17th
when they host the University of New Haven at 12:00pm for a
doubleheader on Warrior Diamond.
