NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Before freshman Beau Batchelor (Peabody, MA) hit an RBI double to left field with two outs in the ninth, the Merrimack College baseball team was held scoreless against a Bentley University team that left Warrior Diamond with a 7-1 win on Thursday.

The Conference loss dropped the Warriors to 14-14 (9-12 NE-10) on the season, while the Falcons improved to 19-18 (12-7 NE-10) on the year.

“Our consistency has proven to be the variable all year,” said head coach Joe Sarno following the loss that dropped Merrimack to .500.  “When we hit and pitch like we know how we can compete with any team in the league.  Right now it's just a matter of believing in our bats and continuing to play good defense behind our solid pitching.”

On the mound for the Warriors was junior Jake Halloran (Stoneham, MA) who went 5.0 innings, but fell to 0-1 after allowing five earned runs on eight hits.  For the Falcons, sophomore Dan Murphy threw a complete game and shutout through 8.2 innings as the Warriors recorded five hits on the day.

With one of the five hits, senior captain Brendan Pyburn (Peabody, MA) extended his hit streak to seven games, while he maintains the team's top batting average at .327, good for 11th in the league.

Junior Matt Cataldo (Tyngsborough, MA) also recorded a hit for the second straight time that he has appeared in the lineup, as the second baseman played the final two innings.

The Warriors will close out the week-long series with the Falcons at DeFelice Field in Waltham on Friday at 3:30pm, but this rubber match with be a non-Conference duel.
