Baseball Blanked at Bentley 10-0 in Non-Conference Bout
WALTHAM, MA – Dropping one game below .500 (14-15), the
Merrimack College baseball team was held scoreless on Friday at
Bentley University (20-18, 12-7 NE-10) in a 10-0, non-Conference
loss at DeFelice Field.
Simply put, head coach Joe Sarno said following
the game, “We didn't play well today.”
Merrimack's only hit against Bentley's Matt Boudrow (2-4) in the
first seven innings came in the top half of the fourth with two
outs from sophomore Tim Curran (South
Weymouth, MA). Senior captain Brendan Pyburn
(Peabody, MA) recorded a single in the eighth to extend
his hitting streak to eight games, while maintaining a .328
team-leading batting average.
The Falcons scored two runs in the first inning after three
hits, including a triple to score the lead runner. The
following two innings would be the only frames Bentley did not
score in the 15-hit outburst for the home team.
Sophomore right-hander Chris Pinette
(Norwoord, MA) started for Merrimack and went 5.1 innings
before being relieved by junior Joe Connors
(Holliston, MA) and later sophomore Bill Humphrey (South
Easton, MA). Pinette allowed seven earned runs on
eleven hits in his sixth appearance of the year.
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday against American
International at home in a Conference doubleheader beginning at
noon on Warrior Diamond.
