Millett Leads Merrimack but Warriors Beaten by Dolphins
SYRACUSE, NY – The Merrimack College softball team (11-24)
struggled to score runs on Saturday in Syracuse as the Warriors
fell to pre-season favorite Le Moyne College (14-16), 8-4 and 3-1
at the Niland Athletic Complex.
Merrimack jumped on the scoreboard of game one first with a
Jamie
Millett (Hudson, MA) solo homer, but three runs in the
bottom of the second from the Dolphins, including two unearned
spelled trouble for the visitors.
Merrimack fought their way back by capitalizing on a Le Moyne
error to score three runs in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead into the
sixth. Millett accounted for two RBIs in the inning, driving
a double to right center.
In the bottom of the sixth, Le Moyne took the lead for good,
exploding for five runs on six hits, including a three-run bomb
from Kelly Schweikert—her seventh of the season.
In game two, senior Atlee Cahill
(Gloucester, MA) pitched 6.0 innings allowing just three
runs, but six Warrior hits only produced one run in the second on a
Millett single.
Despite Millett going 4-for-7 at the plate on the day, the
Warriors fell 3-1 in game two and dropped their sixth straight.
“We're playing well in spurts,” said head coach
Elaine Schwager. “Right now, we're not
finding the right formula to win, but I know we'll bounce back by
the end of this road trip.”
The Warriors are back in action at the College of Saint Rose on
Sunday for a 1:00pm doubleheader in Albany, New York.
