Gosselin's Three-Run Homer Not Enough to Overcome Bentley; Game Two PPD
WALTHAM, MA - A three-run blast in the seventh inning by
sophomore Monique
Gosselin (Lawrence, MA) was not
enough for the Merrimack College softball team in a 4-3 loss to
Bentley University Tuesday afternoon.
"Our hitting was there, we just didn't score the runs we needed
to," said head coach Elaine Schwager. "If we
continue to hit and give our pitchers support, we'll have a good
chance Thursday I believe."
Game two of the double was postponed due to rain and will be
played on Thursday at 4:30pm in Waltham.
Despite out-hitting the Falcons, 11-4, the Warriors surrendered
four runs in a fifth inning that feature a pair of errors.
Junior Kristen Lemay (Shrewsbury,
MA) matched Bentley's tally in hits, going 4-for-4,
but was only driven home once on the Gosselin homer.
Sophomore Alex Gallant (Salem, NH) got the
start for the Warriors and pitched 4.1 innings while allowing two
earned runs on two hits. Freshman Kelli Jo Deardorff
(Bedford, MA) pitched 1.2 innings of relief and
struck out three.
With the loss, Merrimack drops to 13-25 (9-16 NE-10) with five
Conference contests remaining. Bentley improved to 12-19
(9-14 NE-10) with the win while the two teams will decide the
series victor on Thursday in Waltham.
