Women's Lacrosse Downs Saint Anselm 22-9
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women's lacrosse
team picked up its first home victory of the season, defeating
Saint Anselm 22-9 Saturday morning at Warrior Field.
Forcing 16 first-half turnovers, the Warriors jumped out to a
12-5 lead at halftime behind goals from eight different players.
Mia Basile (Longmeadow, MA) led the way with three
assists and four first-half points, while Kelly
Pasquantonio (Plainville, MA) and Meredith Prior
(Branford, CT) tallied two goals and an assist each.
Colleen Strachan (Bedford, MA) played excellent
two-way lacrosse, scoring twice while picking up four caused
turnovers.
The hosts outscored the Hawks 10-4 in the second half, as Mia
Basile finished with four goals and four assists. Her sister,
Maddie Basile (Longmeadow, MA) posted three goals
and five points in the win. Alicia Tinsley (Shrewsbury,
MA) chipped in with two goals and four points.
Jamie-Lee Whiteway (Billerica, MA), who stopped
six of seven first-half free-position shots and nine of 11 in the
game, made 11 saves in the win, improving to 3-2 on the season.
Before the game, each team wore their “Lax 4 Life”
shirts, in support of adolescent suicide awareness. Over 36
institutions nationwide across women's lacrosse have shown
their support this season.
Merrimack (3-2, 2-2 NE-10) visits American International on
Tuesday at 4 p.m.
