Men's Tennis Stays Perfect in Conference Play with Win over Saint Michael's, 8-1
DURHAM, NH– The Merrimack College men's tennis team
remained perfect in Northeast-10 Conference play (8-0) Wednesday
with a win over Saint Michael's College (1-4) at the
University of New Hampshire, 8-1.
The eighth straight Conference win comes with three Conference
matches remaining against Franklin Pierce (0-5), Assumption (0-6)
and Bentley (6-0) to conclude the regular season. The
six-match win streak also matches last year's longest
undefeated run before the Warriors fell to Stonehill.
“It was a solid win for us this afternoon,” said
head coach Chris Stevens. “Chris
[Toegemann] picked up a big singles win and Tony Collins and Jon
Ravenelle came up with a big doubles win. Overall, it was a
good team effort.”
On Wednesday, sophomore Rishi Rajpal (New Delhi,
India) took home a No. 1 singles win over the Purple
Knights Craig Lindabery, 6-2, 6-2 before teaming with freshman
Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, RI) for a No. 2
doubles victory, 8-1.
Sophomore Sean Pahler (Rumson, NJ) also picked
up a pair of wins at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0) and No. 1 doubles,
8-4, with freshman Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad,
Serbia).
The Warriors face Franklin Pierce on April 11th at
10:00am in Rindge, New Hampshire for their third-to-last match
before the postseason.
