#9 Women's Lacrosse Set for Semifinal Battle with #7 Stonehill Saturday
GARDEN CITY, NY – The Merrimack women's lacrosse
team will look to make its first appearance in the Northeast-10
Championship since 2006 when it battles #7 Stonehill College
Saturday afternoon in the semifinals at 3:30 p.m. at Adelphi
University.
Winners of a school-record ten straight games, the Warriors will
likely need to avenge both of their losses this season to capture
the NE-10 title.
The winner of Saturday's Merrimack/Stonehill game will
take on the winner of Adelphi/Southern New Hampshire on Sunday at 1
p.m. at Adelphi. Adelphi and Southern NH will faceoff at 1 p.m.
before the Merrimack-Stonehill semifinal.
The Warriors advanced to the semifinals behind an 18-7 victory
over New Haven Wednesday afternoon at Warrior Field. The hosts led
8-1 and cruised from there behind five goals and eight points from
Mia Basile (Longmeadow, MA) and three goals and
six points from Kelly Pasquantonio (Plainville,
MA).
The Skyhawks, ranked seventh nationally and second in the east
region, received a first-round bye by finishing second in the
conference.
Stonehill defeated Merrimack 13-11 back on March 25 in Easton,
as the Skyhawks netted six of the final eight goals to escape with
the victory. Mia Basile had a team-high five points, while
Jamie-Lee Whiteway (Billerica, MA) stopped 13
shots.
Tickets for Saturday's semifinal game are $5 for adults,
$3 for children and seniors and $1 for college students with valid
ID. The game will also be webcast at adelphipanthers.tv.
