Volleyball Upset by Saint Michael's 3-0 Saturday
COLCHESTER, VT – The Merrimack volleyball team lost for
the first time ever to Saint Michael's Saturday, falling 3-0 in
conference action. Game scores were 25-20, 25-21, 25-19.
Unforced errors killed the Warriors for the second straight
match as they committed 25 attack errors, 10 receive errors and
five service errors.
"St. Michael's played well and made it difficult for us to
score," said head coach Joey Pacis. "We continued with our recent
generosity with an average of 12-13 unforced errors per set. It is
very difficult to compete when we hand over a minimum of 50% of
their points in each set."
Katie Walsh led the Purple Knights with 11 kills, as the hosts
tallied an incredible 10 service aces in the three-set victory.
Molly Cindric
(Westlake Village, CA) led Merrimack offensively with 10
kills and added seven digs and one block. Megan Murray
(Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) added seven kills and hit
.263, while Shaunda Forcier
(Gonic, NH) had eight digs and four kills.
Heidi Wroblicky
(Irvine, CA) picked up a team-high 20 digs but committed
seven receive errors. Natalee Yeazle
(Blaine, MN) added 10 digs and three kills, while
Briana Trabucco (Canton, MA) recorded 22 aces and
two kills in the losing effort.
Merrimack led 16-14 in the first only to see the Purple Knights
tie it at 18 and score the final five points, four of them off
Warrior errors. Like the first set, the visitors led early in the
second, taking a 15-11 lead, but Saint Michael's rattled nine
straight points to take a 22-17 lead and closed it out at 25-21.
The hosts scored five straight points early in the third to lead
14-8 and cruised to victory from there.
Merrimack (1-3, 0-2 NE-10) hosts C.W. Post Friday at 7 p.m. in
the home opener to kick off the ECC/NE-10 Challenge. The Warriors
won their first-ever ECC/NE-10 Challenge in 2009 defeating
Bridgeport, New York Tech, and Queens.
