Women's Cross Country Takes Third in Season Opener

MANCHESTER, NH – The Merrimack women's cross country team kicked off its 2010 season with a third-place finish at the Shacklette Invitational Saturday morning.

In her first collegiate race, freshman Briana Devereaux (Londonderry, NH) was the top Merrimack runner, taking 8th in 20:43.3. Senior captains Rebecca Ainscow (Derry, NH) (10th, 20:50.7) and Caitlin Kasala-Halinan (Worcester, MA) (12th, 20:57.1) also posted top-15 finishes.

Southern New Hampshire's Emma Lundberg captured the race in 19:17.4. Fueled by four runners in the top-seven, Bentley University won the overall meet.

Merrimack is idle next weekend before racing in the Codfish Bowl on September 25 in Boston.
