Volleyball Drops Home Opener to C.W. Post 3-1
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack volleyball team opened
the ECC/NE-10 Challenge with a 3-1 loss to C.W. Post in the home
opener Friday night at the Volpe Gym.
Game scores were 25-18, 26-24, 17-25, 25-17.
Aiming to defend their ECC/NE-10 title from last season,
Molly
Cindric (Westlake Village, CA) netted her second
double-double of the season, picking up 14 kills and 16 digs in the
loss to go with two aces and a block. Elyse Lorenz
(Frankfort, IL) also picked up a double-double, her second
on the season, tallying 40 assists and 14 digs. Natalee
Yeazle (Blaine, MN) was one kill shy of a
double-double, finishing with nine kills and 11 digs.
After dropping the first set 25-18, Merrimack battled with the
Pioneers in the second, tying the set at 23 and 24 before falling
26-24 on consecutive attack errors. The second set featured 14 tie
scores and seven lead changes and three kills from Nicole Duarte
(Windham, NH).
The Warriors led the entire way in the third, taking an early
14-8 lead and closing it out with a 25-17 behind seven kills and an
ace from Cindric. Merrimack hit .316 for the set, making just five
errors to keep the match alive.
But the Pioneers regained their composure in the fourth, firing
17 kills while closing out the match in four sets with a 25-17
victory.
Jordan Schroer led the way for the visitors with 11 kills, 11
digs, and four blocks, while Makamae Namahoe notched 14 kills, five
blocks and hit .355 overall. As a team, C.W. Post (7-2) picked up
nine blocks and hit .234, getting 47 kills and just 15 attack
errors.
Duarte finished with eight kills while Jenna Reilly
(Northport, NY) added nine kills and a .538 attack
percentage.
Merrimack (1-4, 0-2 NE-10) concludes ECC/NE-10 Tournament action
on Saturday taking on Dowling at 10 a.m. and Queens at 1 p.m. at
Bentley University.
