WORCESTER, MA – The Merrimack volleyball team kicked off its season with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Assumption College Thursday night.

Game scores were 25-19, 25-11, 25-14.

"It was a good effort for our first match of the season," said head coach Joey Pacis, who notched his 106th career victory, tops in program history. "We had a very balanced lineup and attack and tried some different things. Once we got past some of the early tentativeness, everything came together which enabled us to run more offensive options."

Eight different Warriors registered a kill, led by eight from Nicole Duarte (Windham, NH). Heidi Wroblicky (Irvine, CA) (13 digs) and Shaunda Forcier (Gonic, NH) (10 digs) both were in double-figures in digs, while Molly Cindric (Westlake Village, CA) posted seven digs, five aces, and four kills. Elyse Lorenz (Frankfurt, IL) chipped in with 14 assists, four aces and three digs. Jenna Reilly (Northport, NY) finished with a match-high five solo blocks and added four digs as Merrimack forced 25 Greyhound attack errors in the victory.

Merrimack's best set was the second, where they committed just one error and hit .360, compared to 10 errors and a -.088 attack percentage for Assumption.

Merrimack (1-0) visits cross-town rival UMass Lowell on Saturday for a 12 p.m. non-conference match.
