Men's Tennis Ekes Out 5-4 Win Over Southern New Hampshire
MANCHESTER, N.H.- The Merrimack men's tennis
team picked up a 5-4 win against Southern New Hampshire, Saturday
afternoon. The Warriors begin Northeast-10 play with a 1-0
conference record and improve to 3-0 overall. The Penmen fall to
0-1 overall on the season and 0-1 in the league with the loss.
Merrimack claimed two of the three doubles matches to own a 2-1
edge going into singles play. Sean Pahler (Rumson,
N.J.) and Petar Golijanin
(Novi Sad, Serbia) claimed an 8-4 win at the No. 2 doubles
slot. Liam
Hoare (West Newbury, Mass.) and Tim McHugh (Edgartown,
Mass.) cruised to an 8-1 victory at the third doubles
position.
The two sides split the six singles points, enabling the
Warriors to walk away with their third straight win of the 2010-11
campaign.
Golijanin rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 3 singles spot
over Alex Mukdaprakorn. Pahler won all 12 games to glide to a 6-0,
6-0 victory at the No. 4 singles position. McHugh also breezed to a
6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 6 singles slot to round out the singles
wins for Merrimack.
Hoare nearly claimed a fourth singles match for the Warriors at
the No. 5 position. Hoare dropped the first set 6-4 but rebounded
to pick up the second set 6-1 to send the match to a third-set
tiebreaker. Southern New Hampshire's John Niland edged Hoare in the
tiebreaker, 10-8.
Merrimack will look to pick up its fourth-consecutive win of the
season when Tufts comes to North Andover October 8.
