Volleyball Blanks Franklin Pierce for First Conference Win
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack volleyball team picked
up its first conference win of the season defeating Franklin Pierce
3-0 at the Volpe Gym Saturday afternoon.
Game scores were 25-18, 25-18, 25-14.
The Warriors took the first set, behind four kills and an ace
from Jenna Reilly (Northport, NY) and finished it
off with an ace from Heidi Wroblicky (Irvine,
CA).
Also winning the second 25-18, Natalie Yeazle (Blaine,
MN) finished it off with an ace, as the Warriors pulled
ahead early 16-12 and never looked back.
They cruised in the third, taking an early 10-5 lead and scored
seven of the final eight points with Alyssa Pickert (Tinley
Park, IL), who was making her home debut of 2009, serving
to end the match.
Merrimack looked as sharp in Saturday's win as it had all
year, winning 69% of its sideout points, including 72% in the
second and 80% in the third, compared to just 46% for the Ravens.
The Warriors made just two receive errors and forced 31 Raven
errors overall.
Playing without Molly Cindric (Westlake Village,
CA) for the first time in four years, five Warriors
recorded six or more kills, led by eight from Shaunda Forcier (Gonic, NH), who also added seven digs and two
aces. Pickert (15 digs) and Wroblicky (14) combined for 29 digs
defensively, while Nicole Duarte (Windham, NH)
added eight kills. Merrimack totaled nine team blocks, led by three
solo and four assists from Reilly, and five assists from
Yeazle.
Merrimack (2-7, 1-3 NE-10) hosts UMass Lowell Tuesday night at 7
p.m. in the Volpe Gym.
