Field Hockey Opens Northeast-10 Play with Loss to Franklin Pierce
RINDGE, N.H.- The Merrimack field hockey team
dropped a 4-0 decision to Franklin Pierce to open up the
Northeast-10 portion of the schedule. The Warriors fall to 0-3
overall and 0-1 in the conference this season while the Ravens up
their record to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast-10.
Jordan Baillargeon tallied Franklin Pierce's first two
goals. Her first of the game came 23 minutes into the contest and
her second score followed shortly thereafter. Tia Levine added a
third goal for the Ravens in the closing minutes of the first half
to help Franklin Pierce carry a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Levine provided the only offense in the second half, notching
her second goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second
stanza. Levine punched in a rebound from the right post to put the
Ravens ahead 4-0.
Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, Mass.) turned aside
five shots in the contest for the Warriors in goal.
Jen Otis (Penacook, N.H.) paced Merrimack with
three shots. Franklin Pierce held the advantage in shots on the
night, 14-9. The Warriors owned the edge in penalty corners, 13-3,
holding the Ravens to zero in the first half.
Looking towards the next contest, head coach Anne Rounce said,
"Victoria DeLacey (Charlton, Mass.),
April Daugherty (Lincoln, R.I.) and Sarah Salatto (Guilford, Conn.) need to be the leaders to help
us get back on track heading into the next game. Those leaders will
be key factors in helping us get to the level where we need to
be."
The Warriors will travel to Easton, Mass., to take on Stonehill
in a Northeast-10 conference matchup September 11.
