Volleyball Falls to AIC, 3-0
SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Merrimack volleyball team opened
conference play with a 3-0 loss to American International Wednesday
night at the Butova Gym. Game scores were 25-19, 25-22, 25-16.
The Warriors were their own worst enemy, committing 26 attack
errors, 10 service errors, and seven receive errors while hitting
just .054 for the match.
In the first set, the score was deadlocked at 14, before the
Yellow Jackets tallied 11 of the final 16 points, with the final
two points on kills from Blair Havron. AIC took an early 7-2 lead
in the second, but the Warriors scored five straight points to cut
the lead to 18-16. But that was as close as they would get as two
late Merrimack service errors resulted in a 25-22 win for the
Yellow Jackets. In the third, AIC rattled off seven of the final
eight points, taking advantage of three Merrimack attack errors to
seal the victory, AIC's second of the season.
Molly Cindric
(Westlake Village, CA) led the Warriors with 10 digs,
eight kills and one block assist but also committed six attack and
three service errors. Nicole Duarte
(Windham, NH) and Megan Murray
(Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) each picked up seven kills,
while Heidi Wroblicky
(Irvine, CA) notched 16 digs as the libero.
"We were beat by a very wel-trained AIC team that didn't make a
lot of errors and kept the ball in play," said head coach Joey
Pacis. "We executed the way we were supposed to for parts of sets,
and I'm confident as we continue to work hard and train, we will be
able to sustain that level for longer stages. With that being said,
it is difficult to beat an opponent when you are outnumerbering
them with unforced errors almost two-to-one."
Terry led the Yellow Jackets with seven kills, while Kervelle
Redhead and Caitlin Connolly had 11 digs each. AIC's defense was
the difference, as they notched 8.5 team blocks and just three
receive errors.
