Men's Soccer Stumbles at Stonehill, Drops 2-1 Decision
EASTON, MA - The Merrimack men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss at Stonehill Saturday afternoon. The Warriors fall to 6-4-2 overall and 4-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Skyhawks improved to 6-6-0 on the year and 4-4-0 in the league with the win.
Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, ON) put the visitors on the board in the 11th minute. Sabadoz collected a through-ball from Nicholas Lo Coco (Gloucester, MA) and buried it into the lower left corner of the cage. The marker was the senior's fourth of the season.
Merrimack went into halftime leading 1-0 over Stonehill. The Warriors held a 7-5 advantage in shots through 45 minutes of play.
The Skyhawks knotted the match 1:25 into the second stanza at 1-1. Mark Bolstered headed in a corner kick from Ross McWilliams to tie the game.
Stonehill took the lead in the 71st minute as Michael White found the back of the net.
Merrimack edged the Skyhawks in shots on the day 15-12. The hosts earned seven corner kicks in the contest while conceding two.
Evan Berube (Uxbridge, MA) made two saves in his first start of the season between the posts for the Warriors.
"We came out hard in the first half and we put pressure on them with an early goal," said head coach Tony Martone. "We came out flat in the second half and that allowed them to tie it. Our focus and intensity dropped off in the second half."
Merrimack will look to snap the two-game skid as it prepares to host No. 2 Franklin Pierce October 11.
