#5/6 Men's Lacrosse Cruises to 17-7 Win over Dominican

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack men's lacrosse team made it two straight to open the season, picking up a 17-7 victory over Dominican in the home opener Thursday night at Warrior Field.
Merrimack netted eight-first period goals to take an 8-3 lead, including seven of the final eight tallies in the quarter, with Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ) and Terence Barclay (Babylon, NY) picking up three goals each.
The Warriors outshot the visitors 12-3 in the second and took a 12-4 halftime lead behind goals from Brad McAdam (Neshanic Station, NJ), Greg Melaugh (Billerica, MA), Greg Fallon (North Kingstown, RI) and Nick Vazquez (Haverhill, MA).
Melaugh, Michael Balbuena (Falmouth, MA), and David Robinson (Lexington, MA) notched third-quarter goals, pushing Merrimack's lead to 15-4 as the hosts outshot Dominican 10-3.
Barclay, who has seven goals and 10 points on the season, led the Warriors with three goals and six points, while Vazquez added two goals and five points. Lunney totaled three goals, while McAdam chipped in with a pair.
Connor Reagan (East Lyme, CT) and Sean Payne (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ ) combined to stop five shots, playing a half each in the victory.
Merrimack won 20 of 27 draws and forced 21 turnovers, while outshooting the Chargers 45-26 in the win.
Merrimack (2-0, 0-0 NE-10) opens conference play against Southern New Hampshire Thursday at 7 p.m. at Warrior Field.
