Women's Lacrosse Loses 11-10 Battle with #8 Stonehill Thursday
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Jessica Guisti scored with 3:50 remaining in regulation to give eighth-ranked Stonehill the 11-10 victory over the Merrimack women's lacrosse team Thursday afternoon at Warrior Field.
Stonehill led 9-8 entering the second half before the teams engaged in a defensive struggle, combining for 12 saves in the final half, seven from Rebecca Moore.
Sam Lynott scored 3:05 into the second to give the Skyhawks the 10-8 lead, but Jen Pino (North Andover, MA) and Christina McCarron (Westwood, MA) responded with tallies to even the score at 10 with 15:36 to play.
That set the table for Guisti, who gave the visitors the lead with an unassisted tally with 3:50 left.
Merrimack forced a Skyhawk turnover with 18 seconds to play, but time ran out before the hosts could get a shot on net.
Merrimack started strong, getting six unanswered goals to take a 7-4 lead with 5:54 to play in the first. But Stonehill responded with five straight goals before Alicia Tinsley (Shrewsbury, MA) scored with 25 seconds left, as the Skyhawks led 9-8 at halftime. Tinsley and Mary Pasquantonio (Plainville, MA) each had two first-half goals, as five different Warriors picked up first-half goals.
Pasquantonio had a team-high four points (two goals, two assists) and grabbed three draw controls, while Colleen Strachan (Bedford, MA) and Tinsley had three points each. Inna Hedden (Woodbine, MD) was strong in net, making nine saves, five in the second half and two on free-position attempts.
Merrimack (1-1, 0-1 NE-10) visits Assumption on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game with the Greyhounds.
