Men's Tennis Sweeps Saint Anselm, 9-0
RYE, N.H.- The Merrimack men's tennis team claimed its second victory of the spring with a 9-0 win over Saint Anselm Sunday at the Wentworth by the Sea Country Club. The Warriors improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Northeast-10 action with the win. The Hawks sink to 0-3 on the year and in the league.
Merrimack took a quick three-point lead after earning wins in all of the doubles matches. Tim McHugh (Edgartown, Mass.) and Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) breezed to an 8-0 victory at the No. 2 position. Sean Pahler (Rumson, N.J.) and Liam Hoare (West Newbury, Mass.) picked up an 8-1 win at the third doubles slot and Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain) and Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) defeated Saint Anselm's Joe Zucchi and Will Condon 8-2 at the top spot.
Barnhart, Pahler and Hoare all rolled to 8-0 victories in singles action for the Warriors. McHugh cruised past the Hawks' Liam Concannon 8-1 at the fifth position. Max Eppley downed Zucchi at the second singles slot 6-2, 6-0. Golijanin completed the sweep with a victory at the No. 1 singles match.
"Our doubles pairs are coming together and we took care of business in the singles matches today," said head coach Chris Stevens. "The guys were focused and kept their errors down, showing their confidence throughout the match."
Up next, Merrimack will take on Pace March 19 at the Wentworth by the Sea Country Club.
