Men's Tennis Defeats Assumption 8-1
WORCESTER, Mass.- The Merrimack men's tennis team returned to Northeast-10 Conference play with a 8-1 victory over Assumption Tuesday. The Warriors improve to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the league. The Greyhounds fall to 1-6 on the season and 1-4 in conference matches.
Merrimack claimed a pair of doubles wins to own a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of pairs play. Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Tim McHugh (Edgartown, Mass.) picked up an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 slot. The tandem of Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I.) and Jon Ravenelle (North Andover, Mass.) triumphed 8-1 at the third doubles position.
The Warriors swept all six singles matches to roll past Assumption. Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain) defeated Jimmy Mongello at the top spot 6-2, 6-4. Barnhart cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 position.
Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) prevailed 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 3 slot for Merrimack. McHugh and Liam Hoare (West Newbury, Mass.) each claimed 6-3, 6-3 victories at the fourth and fifth singles spots, respectively. Toegemann completed the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 6 position.
Up next, the Warriors will look to remain undefeated in the conference as they host Le Moyne April 2 at North Andover High School.
