Men's Tennis Blanks Le Moyne 9-0
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- The Merrimack men's tennis team remained undefeated in Northeast-10 Conference matches Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 win over Le Moyne. The Warriors improve to 11-3 on the season and 6-0 in the league. The Dolphins dip to 7-6 overall and 6-4 in the conference.
Merrimack kicked off the match with three doubles victories. Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Liam Hoare (West Newbury, Mass.) triumphed at the No. 3 slot 8-1. Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain) and Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) cruised to an 8-2 victory at the top pairs position. The tandem of Tim McHugh (Edgartown, Mass.) and Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I.) edged Le Moyne's Joseph Persia and Daryl Johnson 9-7 at the second doubles spot.
Barnhart swept all 12 games en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 singles position. McHugh picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 slot. Golijanin prevailed 6-1, 6-3 at the third singles match.
After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Eppley rebounded to claim a 6-1 victory in the second set. The junior took the match with a 10-7 win in the third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 1 match.
Hoare and Toegemann each captured 8-2 wins at the fifth and sixth singles slots, respectively, to complete the sweep.
Merrimack travels to New York to take on Union in a non-league match Sunday, April 3.
