Baseball Blanked at Bentley 8-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Merrimack baseball team dropped an 8-0 decision at Bentley Wednesday afternoon, two days after topping the Falcons 17-6 at home. The Warriors fall to 11-18 on the year and 3-11 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the loss. Bentley rises to 10-20 overall with a 4-10 mark in the league.

Merrimack racked up five hits on the day, with five players picking up a base knock in the game. Mike Dooling (Milford, Conn.) had the Warriors' lone extra-base hit in the contest with a double in the second inning.

Bentley scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to go ahead early 4-0. Shawn Keady laced a lead-off triple to left field. Ross Curley drove in Keady with an RBI double to left center. Logan Gillis doubled to right center enabling Curley to cross home plate for the 2-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by Chris Hardy plated the Falcons' third run of the opening frame. Kevin Korwek drove in Bentley's fourth run of the inning with a two-out RBI single.

Dooling opened the second inning with a double to the gap in right center. The senior advanced to third on a groundout by Joe Mantoni (Hopedale, Mass.). The Warriors were unable to push Dooling across the plate, stranding him 90 feet from home.

The home team added a run in the sixth inning on a single up the middle by Lamarre Rey to grab a 5-0 advantage.

The Falcons tacked on three runs in the eighth to increase their lead to eight runs. Vinnie Eruzione drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center. Mark Lane's two-run single to right field capped off the scoring for the game.

Chris Pinette (Norwood, Mass.) hurled seven innings on the mound in his second start of the season. Keith Johansen (Tyngsborough, Mass.) tossed an inning in relief with one strikeout.

The Warriors return home to face Southern New Hampshire April 21 in a Northeast-10 Conference tilt.
