Men's Tennis Downs Saint Michael's 8-1

COLCHESTER, Vt.- The Merrimack men's tennis team captured an 8-1 victory over Saint Michael's Wednesday at the Tarrant Recreation Center. The Warriors raise their record to 13-3 overall and 7-0 in the Northeast-10. The Purple Knights sink to 1-7 on the year and in the league with the loss.

Merrimack swept the three doubles matches to own a 3-0 lead heading into the singles portion of the match. At the No. 2 position, Tim McHugh (Edgartown, Mass.) and Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I.) earned an 8-5 win. Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Liam Hoare (West Newbury, Mass.) captured an 8-5 result at the third slot. Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain) and Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) edged Saint Michael's Nick Boscc and Ryan Magee 9-7 at the top spot.

The Warriors claimed victories in five of the six singles matches. Barnhart cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 3 position. McHugh prevailed 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 slot over the Purple Knights' Magee. At the second position, Golijanin captured a 6-3, 6-4 win. Toegemann dropped one game en route to an 8-1 victory.

At the fifth singles match, Hoare triumphed in a tiebreaker to take both sets. The junior earned a 7-4 win in the first tiebreaker and a 7-3 decision in the second.

Merrimack looks to tie a program record for wins in a season with 14 as it hosts four Northeast-10 Conference foes, starting with American International April 7.
