#12 Women's Lacrosse Rolls to 18-9 Win over Saint Anselm
MANCHESTER, NH – Behind five goals from Maria DeStefano (Eliot, ME), the Merrimack women's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-9 victory over Saint Anselm Saturday afternoon in conference action.
DeStefano netted four of Merrimack's first five goals, giving the visitors a 5-2 lead late in the first half.
Merrimack led 8-3 at halftime and 13-4 with 20:32 left after Nicole Moran (Pembroke, MA) and Jen Pino (North Andover, MA) scored one-minute apart.
The visitors cruised from there, as Moran netted a career-high three goals and four points, while DeStefano totaled six points and a caused turnover.
Seven Warriors scored in all, as Alicia Tinsley (Shrewsbury, MA) picked up two goals, while Pino finished with four tallies, three draw controls, and two ground balls.
Inna Hedden (Woodbine, MD) made nine saves in net, six in the second half as Merrimack outshot the Hawks 38-22 in the game, including 17-8 in the first half.
The Warriors also forced 20 turnovers, 11 in the second half, while surrendering just 10 of their own in the victory.
Colleen Strachan (Bedford, MA) added two more goals to her team-leading total, while chipping in with a team-high four draw controls.
"It was a good team effort today," said head coach Corinne Baker. "We adjusted well in the second half and got lots of good looks to the cage. Hopefully we can keep up the offensive firepower for Bentley on Tuesday."
Merrimack (8-4, 5-3 NE-10) will battle Bentley University Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Waltham.
