Volleyball Set to Open Home Portion of Schedule Thursday Against Southern New Hampshire

North Andover, MA - The Merrimack volleyball team will play its first home match of the season against conference foe Southern New Hampshire on Thursday, September 15 at 7 p.m.

The Warriors (2-5) head into the match after going 1-2 at the River Hawk Classic; Merrimack defeated Post and dropped matches to Franklin-Pierce and Mass.-Lowell. Freshman outside hitter Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, NY) led Merrimack with 33 kills and 3.30 kills per set in three matches at the River Hawk Classic. Freshman setter Allison Cote (Chelmsford, MA) also led the team in digs with 44 and digs per set with 4.40.

Jenna Reilly (Northport, NY), Aliya Winker (Arlington, VA), and Sheehan have continued to contribute to the defense as each of them recorded 10 or more blocks in the three games this past weekend. A couple of upperclassmen have also stepped up for the warriors as junior setter Brianna Trabucco (Canton, MA) has continued to contribute with a team high 82 assists this weekend and Nicole Duarte (Windham, NH) finished this weekend second on the team with 23 kills and 2.30 kills per set.

Merrimack ranks in the top half of the Northeast-10 in several statistics. The Warriors rank tied for second in the conference in service aces (54), tied for fourth in total blocks (50), tied for fourth in blocks per set (1.94), seventh in kills (256) and attack percentage (1.75).

Southern New Hampshire travels to North Andover with a 1-3 record after dropping its last match to Bridgeport over the weekend. The Penmen have two players who are averaging over 2.0 kills per set in Danielle Coffey and Megan Lesczynski, while Emily Winters paces the attack with 7.0 assists per set. Defensively, Danielle Coffey leads the team with 1.44 blocks per set and Peyton Williams leads the team with 3.56 digs per set.

Southern New Hampshire's only victory this season came September 8 as they defeated the Warriors 3-1 at home.
